ABA welcomes today’s move by the Reserve Bank of Australia to designate Armaguard under the recently legislated Cash Distribution Framework Act.
ABA CEO Simon Birmingham said this was an important step in providing ongoing stability to the distribution and availability of cash across the economy.
“The Cash Distribution Framework is an important piece of regulatory reform to ensure the continued availability of cash given the decline in its usage and recent uncertainties across the sector,” Mr Birmingham said.
“Given Armaguard is Australia’s largest cash-in-transit operator, it was to be expected that they would be captured under this new regulatory regime and we acknowledge the swift action of the RBA since passage of the legislation just two weeks ago. This action should help to provide further certainty for cash distribution.
“All actions should now be geared to deliver sustainable pricing, clear service standards and the reasonable availability of cash to consumers and businesses across Australia.
“Banks remain committed to ensuring Australians can continue to use and pay with cash if they wish to do so.
“That’s why banks and retailers have stepped up, injecting over $100 million in financial assistance above contractual conditions to Armaguard over the past two years.”
